When I was growing up, my dad would always drive us crazy by giving these really long explanations about things we kinda didn't care about.
Like one night at the dinner table, my brother asked if he could heat up his food a little bit in the microwave. Dad followed him to the kitchen to make sure my brother covered his plate with a paper towel to avoid splattering (this would be why we called Dad "Danny Tanner" a lot growing up... but I digress.). While they were standing there watching the food heat, Dad went into this really long explanation of how a microwave works and why you can't put metal in it... anyway, you get the idea. Dustin's eyes were totally glazed over by the time his lasagna or whatever reached the right temperature.
So tonight I had to laugh when Chris was getting Rory out of the tub. He turned off the water and the shower head made a gurgle/hiss noise. Rory squealed, "Daddy, what's that?!" and Chris proceeded to explain:
"That noise is what happens when the water leaves the pipes and air comes in instead. The pressure changes in the pipes when the water isn't running."
Silence.
What seemed like 5 minutes later, Rory looked at him and said "O.... tay." *insert quizzical Rory look here*
Then, in typical Rory fashion, she quickly changed the subject to something more whimsical and shrieked: "Daddy, hobbit walkin' doot doot!"*
Anyway, the moral of the story is: no matter how silly toddlers are, dads are sillier.
*Hobbit walking is what she does after a bath. She reminded me of a little hobbit when I saw her walking around in her hooded bath towel one evening so I called it hobbit walking and then sang a little ditty while she walked. Now it's a tradition she looks forward to every night. :)

Ryan does that too! (The explanations...not the hobbit walking.) What is it with dads that they are so hungry to impart useless pieces of wisdom?
